Tech mogul reveals plan to launch AI-powered celebrity bots on social media
Mark Zuckerberg has spent years battling the perception that fewer humans are using his apps. Now he is hoping robots will draw them back.
At Meta’s annual developer conference on Wednesday, Zuckerberg announced that people will be able to speak to artificial intelligence chatbots through Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.
The bots – 28 of them – are represented by digital avatars of celebrities like Snoop Dogg, Paris Hilton and the American football star Tom Brady, playing AI “characters” who are experts in subjects such as cooking, career advice and creative writing.
Zuckerberg believes his bots should be more than glorified search engines, however. He wants them to be something closer to friends.
