A zoo has come up with unique name for giraffe born without spots.
Staff at Brights Zoo in Limestone, Tennessee, were stumped when their latest arrival showed up without a classic giraffe spotted fur coat. They then turned to the public to help come up with a name fitting for their special newborn.
Out of a number of names put to the public for a vote, the frontrunner soon became Kipekee – winning with more than 40,000 votes and a margin of 6,000. The sweet name is Swahili for Unique. Staff say Kipekee has been fully accepted into the herd who see her no differently
The zoo is now expecting an influx of visitors to see Kipekee, believed to be just one of a very small number of completely spotless giraffes. In a statement about Kipekee, the zoo said: “Born on July 31st â this is the rarest living giraffe on the planet. What makes her so rare? Simply put it is because she was born without a pattern. We know the last time this took place was in 1972 in Tokyo Japan.
