Yorkshire racism hearing delayed until 2023 over defendant appeals

The moving of the hearings from the end of this month means England spinner Adil Rashid may be able to give evidence in person

The Yorkshire racism hearing is set to be delayed until the new year after several defendants lodged appeals against the case being heard in public.

Hearings were due to start on November 28 with seven individuals and Yorkshire charged with offences relating to evidence supplied by former player Azeem Rafiq.

Two weeks ago the Cricket Disciplinary Commission accepted a request from Rafiq for the hearings to be held in public, breaking with decades of precedent of cases being held behind closed doors with written judgements handed down.

Defendants are understood to have lodged appeals on different grounds, including disclosure of evidence and the hearing being public, as the case becomes mired in legal and logistical issues.
