Ian Price, 52, was killed in the frenzied XL Bully attack (Image: Facebook) The owner of the XL Bullys that mauled a man to death had previously said his dog was a ‘mean-looking f***er’ on Facebook. Ian Price, 52, was attacked by the frenzied animals just yards from his family home. It’s understood Mr Price was trying to protect his elderly mum from the beasts after they leapt out of a neighbours window. The married dad-of-two was savaged to death by the two out-of-control XL Bully beasts in a ferocious 20-minute attack that ripped all his clothing from his body. Their owner’s Facebook page features a photo of his child in front of the pets, one of each sex, which are on a sofa, reports The Sun. Mr Price, who ran his own domestic restoration business, was attempting to ‘shoo away’ the hounds after they burst into the pensioner’s front garden after escaping from a neighbouring house. Passers-by desperately tried to free the dogs jaws from Mr Price, ramming them with wheelie bins and hitting them with sticks, as armed police raced to the scene. But tragically by the time he was freed he had sustained catastrophic bite injuries and was rushed to hospital in a critical condition after being found by paramedics lying in a pool of blood in just his shredded boxer shorts. Despite medics frantic efforts he could not be revived and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at hospital. A witness told The Sun: ‘It was so awful I can barely talk about it, but Ian was mauled to death and it was just horrendous.’ She added: ‘Both dogs set on him. Neighbours came to help but many stood this side of the fence because they were too frightened to get involved.” She said that despite one man beating the dog with a stick, the dogs took no notice. Her husband said: ‘We can’t get our heads around it. “This is a beautiful, quiet little village.” A nearby school, St Peter’s Primary Academy, went into lockdown and pupils were kept inside for their safety. Mr Price’s grief-stricken wife Heather is a teaching assistant at the school. It is understood a colleague broke the devastating news her husband had been involved. Earlier this year the pair celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary and they have two children – son Russell, 20, who is just about to start his second year at Swansea University and daughter Fiona, 17. A 30-year-old man from the Lichfield area has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and having dogs dangerously out of control. He has been released on conditional bail. Mr Price’s death came a day before Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced that the breed implicated in the incident would be banned before the end of the year – and a day after a 10-year-old boy was mauled in the street by an out-of-control animal as he played football in the street. In a video announcement posted to his X – formerly Twitter – account on Friday, Mr Sunak said the breed would be banned following a “pattern of behaviour” that he said “cannot go on”.
