 Microsoft has very quietly reinstated an offer that lets new Xbox Game Pass subscribers pay just £1 for their first month. Just four months ago, Microsoft decided to stop offering new Xbox Game Pass subscribers a £1 trial for the service. Basically, new subscribers would only have to pay £1 for their first month, allowing them to test out the service without breaking the bank. At the time, Microsoft never really said why it did this, only saying it was 'evaluating different marketing promotions for new members in the future.' This suggested it would offer a new alternative to coax new members, but it seems Microsoft ultimately decided to just bring the original offer back, right after it raised the price of Game Pass. Microsoft doesn't appear to have announced this anywhere on its website or social media accounts, so there's no explanation for why it's U-turned on its decision. However, the £1 trial has clearly been reinstated on the Game Pass website. Although it only applies for Game Pass on PC (which is still £7.99 per month) and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (which is now £12.99 per month). If you want to try out Game Pass for consoles, it's £8.99 per month. While Microsoft obviously never admitted it, the £1 trial's removal may have been due to how little profit Game Pass was making. It's not just Game Pass though. Subscriptions for similar services like PlayStation Plus and Netflix have begun to stall while traditional game sales have gone up. With Game Pass now more expensive and the UK still in the midst of a cost-of-living crisis and high energy bills, perhaps Microsoft figured taking away the £1 trial would do more harm than good in the long run. As for why it hasn't included such an offer for Game Pass on console, it's probably because everything it offers is included in Game Pass Ultimate anyway.
