 Big E has admitted his in-ring WWE career could be over due to a horror injury suffered in May 2022. The former world champion was rocked by a broken neck during a match on the March 11, 2022 episode of SmackDown when a suplex from Ridge Holland – who Big E doesn't blame for the incident – went badly wrong in a terrifying accident. The scary moment saw the beloved New Day star land on his head, which caused him to fracture his C1 and C6 vertebrates, although he did avoid any ligament or spinal cord damage. Big E underwent scans after the one year mark, and he has now admitted the advice from doctors is to avoid wrestling again. He explained: 'We did the year check-up and all that stuff looked great, but on the other side, I also talked to spine specialists, people who have worked on other people in the company and done their fusions and they said, 'Hey, I would not wrestle again if I were you.' ' The fan favourite was talking to press during a media conference over SummerSlam week in Detroit, where he has been on the ground helping with tryouts. He added: 'For me, at 37, these are things that I think about. I think about quality of life. When I started this job at 23 and probably had a bit of a death wish and was okay at dying in the ring, I would now like to not die in the ring. 'I would like to do other things with my life. I don't really have a timeline right now. I'm just really grateful to not have any nerve pain. My strength is great. Legit no issues whatsoever.' Now, Big E is determined to 'make the best decision' for his own life, and thus he has 'no answer' when it comes to whether or not fans will ever see him back in a wrestling ring.
