Wrexham star tears up as he opens up on son’s diagnosis and Reynolds support

An emotional Paul Mullin has opened up about his son’s diagnosis with autism and the support he has received from Ryan Reynolds . The Wrexham talisman was speaking during an episode of ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ docuseries. Speaking on camera as part of the FX show, Mullin was visibly on the verge of tears as he spoke about his beloved boy. Back in January, the 28-year-old forward revealed that his aon Albi had been diagnosed with autism. The Red Dragons’ promotion hero went into detail about the challenges he and his wife Mollie have faced during the past year. Reflecting on the period, Mullin admitted that his career now ‘comes second’ to his commitments at home. While the couple were able to get a diagnosis for their son, the striker admitted that he still feels ‘guilty’ when he goes to bed at night. He’s a joy. ‘I wouldn’t change him for the world.Sometimes he’ll just turn around and say ‘Dada’ and that’s something I love to hear, it makes me cry every time to be honest with you.’ Afterwards, the prolific marksman offered his advice to parents in a similar position. He said: ‘If you’re going through a tough time with your partner and you feel you have to break up because you’re always at each other’s throats, because it is tough, believe me if you can stay for your child, it will only help them and benefit them.” Paul Mullin has explained how Ryan Reynolds supported him after his son’s diagnosis (Image: Getty) Following on, Mullin also spoke about a heartwarming moment when Wrexham owner Ryan Reynolds lent some words of support. Later in the episode, he recounts showing the Hollywood superstar a clip of Albi counting to ten, which prompted a caring response. Moved by what he had saw, the world famous actor said: “That’s so good though. Oh my God. Then it just goes crazy like with every kid”. The second episode in the series also involves autistic Wrexham fan Millie Tipping, who details how the club’s “quiet zone” has changed her life. Essentially, the room enables supporters with sensory needs to attend and experience a game with adaptations such as noise cancelling headphones.
