Wrexham manager has stark warning for Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney

Wrexham boss Parkinson sees no reason why club cannot reach Premier League Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson has asked the club’s co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney for more money in the transfer window after an opening-day defeat. The club started the season with a disappointing 5-3 loss to MK Dons, which has prompted a ‘good chat’ between the manager and the Hollywood duo. The game was the club’s first since gaining promotion back into the Football League but sadly saw the Dragons on the back foot from the off. An early own-goal from Eoghan O’Connell set the tone for the game which ended in a home defeat for the Welsh side. Following the game, head coach Phil Parkinson opened up on a conversation with the club’s owners and stressed the importance of making more signings before the summer transfer window closes. ‘I had a good chat with them,” Parkinson said. “The thing is with Rob and Ryan, they are the first people to come in and sit down and have a beer with me after the game. When we win, we have enjoyed the good times but as a manager, player and owner of a football club, it is taking the knocks and today is a knock for us. We are looking to add a couple more players before the window closes. “And if we do that, I am confident we have got a very strong squad. If we don’t, we have still got quality more than we showed in terms of the ability on the football pitch.’ Following Wrexham’s first trophy in 45 years, the club has only made two signings so far this transfer window. Republic of Ireland international James McClean and former Huddersfield defender Will Boyle are the only new faces to join.
