THE world’s highest-earning jockey has set a new record for cash made in a season – but he only gets to keep a fraction.
Irad Ortiz Jr’s rides banked a whopping £30.3million on racecourses in the US this season.
That is a single-season record for a rider in the States, eclipsing Ortiz’s own mark of £29.9m in 2019.
But it was the owners of the horses who benefited the most from his success on the track.
A jockey will only keep a percentage of the winnings from a race, varying from around seven per cent to ten per cent.
