World’s biggest lottery jackpot of $2bn won by Californian ticket holder

At some point in the last week, someone walked into Joe’s Service Centre in Altadena, California, and bought a lottery ticket with the numbers 10, 33, 41, 47 and 56 and a Powerball number 10 on it. Last night, that someone was America’s newest billionaire, winning $2.04bn.

The biggest lottery winner in the world has not been identified. They will be able to choose whether to take the total prize in instalments, or opt for a cash payout, a $997.6 million lump sum.

Joseph Chahayed, owner of the service station, was also celebrating – he will get a million dollars for selling the ticket. He told CBS News: “My son is expecting a baby in two months, so we are excited. We can have a
