Canada were the opponents when Emily Scarratt’s fame soared, when “Scaz” became “Golden Balls” and kicked England to 2014 World Cup victory. Three penalties and her own match-sealing converted try brought her country a first women’s global title since 1994.
Eight years on, England are looking to become world champions once more and Canada are their semi-final opponents. Scarratt is one of four players left from England’s match-day squad that day (the 2022 starting back row being the others). This is her fourth World Cup and first outside Europe, a rare new experience for a player who has 106 caps and is the Red Roses’ highest points-scorer of all.
