The prospect of a sold-out Twickenham hosting the 2025 Rugby World Cup final would once have seemed far-fetched, but no longer. That is the aim of the organisers, and a 40,000-plus crowd at Eden Park for this year’s women’s final suggests itis rational.
The capacity of Eden Park is comparable to the attendance for the entire 2017 World Cup (45,412). New Zealand’s semi-final victory over France created a groundswell of interest, with about 8,000 tickets sold in the following hours and more seats being made available.
England’s first standalone fixture at Twickenham on April 29 next year against France, a potential Saturday-afternoon grand-slam decider, will be a bellwether for the viability of hosting the Red Roses regularly at the 82,000-seat stadium, and of early
