Lori Power suffered serious injures after jumping from a window (Image: MEN) A couple who lost their dog and all their belongings in a house fire have issued a warning after fear fire was caused by an air fryer. Lori Power, 26, was home alone when she heard an alarm coming from downstairs. Thinking someone was trying to break into the home she shared with partner Andy Martin, 31, she called him on FaceTime. Andy, who had been working away from home at the time, watched as Lori walked onto the landing in their home to discover thick smoke coming up the stairs. Lori quickly hung up the phone to call emergency services before calling her partner back to tell him she coudn’t escape the property. She gave her final goodbyes and told him she loved him, saying: “I can’t get out, I love you.” The house was ravaged in the fire (Image: Dogs) But miraculously, the construction company worker managed to survive the blaze by jumping from an upstairs window. However, the fall saw her break part of her spine and she is currently recovering in hospital. Tragically, one of their two dogs, four-year-old French bulldog Willow, died from her burns. The couple are now homeless and are currently trying to find new accommodation through the council. ‘I got a phone call from Lori saying, ‘I can’t get out, I love you,” Andy, who helps fit hoists for disabled children, told the Manchester Evening News . ‘I was stuck in Brighton and my heart just went. She squeezed through a window and missed the ledge and fell onto her back. She collapsed at the gate. She could have been paralysed.’ Sadly, the couple were not able to salvage anything from their home. The couple claim an investigation into the blaze found the fire may have been caused by an air fryer that was left plugged in but not switched on. Andy has now warned others to always make sure kitchen appliances are switched off at the wall when not in use. He’s also advised others to make sure homes have smoke alarms and to test them regularly. ‘The landlord thinks it was the socket,’ Andy added. ‘Because the air fryer was plugged in but not switched on. When he looked at the sockets in the kitchen, inside the socket was all melted and black.’ Andy now credits the actions of his brave and quick-thinking friend who managed to get both dogs out of the house before fire crews arrived. ‘He literally saved one of my dogs and I just want people to know how good he is,’ Andy added. Willow, left, sadly died following the fire. Her mum Star, right, survived but has smoke inhalation (Image: MEN) ‘He managed to kick the door off but flames were coming out towards him. He found the dogs, one was hiding behind the couch and one was trapped in the fire.’ Star, the French bulldog found hiding behind the sofa, suffered smoke inhalation but survived. Sadly, her puppy Willow died from her injuries. ‘We got a phone call from the vet saying Willow only had an hour to live,’ Andy added. ‘Her lungs were collapsing. Everything has gone, including one of my dogs. All I’ve thought about is Lori and my dog. It’s heartbreaking, that was my baby. I got her at eight-weeks-old.’ A fundraiser has now been set up to help Andy and Lori through this devastating time. To donate, follow the link by clicking here .
