A woman has plummeted 100ft to her death after she slipped off a clifftop moments after getting engaged.
Yesim Demir, 39, was celebrating her engagement with boyfriend Nizamettin Gursu, at Polente Cape in north-western Turkey when she tragically fell over the edge.
He had just proposed to her when the pair went up to the cliff to celebrate and watch the sunset. But as he went back to the car to fetch some more stuff for their picnic, Nizamettin suddenly heard a scream – and rushed back to find that his new fiancee had tumbled off the cliff.
She reportedly fell 32 metres (104 feet) and initially survived the plunge in the evening of July 6, but was pronounced dead by medics after 45 minutes of resuscitation efforts.Gursu told local media: “We chose it to have a romantic memory after the proposal. We drank some alcohol. Everything happened at once. She lost her balance and fell down.”Authorities immediately closed off the area and opened an investigation, according to reports, with access to the cliff only being permitted again “in a controlled manner” on July 16.
