The woman admitted she lashed out at her younger colleague when she persisted in asking how much money her husband earned in his job and calling her stuck up for not sharing the information
Talking about money and how much you earn is a delicate subject – but for one woman a conversation with her co-worker proved too much as she refused to stop asking what her husband’s salary was. Furious about being asked repeatedly about something she didn’t think was appropriate or any of her colleague’s business, the woman lashed out and called her a nosy b****. While she thought she didn’t have anything to be sorry for, the 33-year-old was stunned when several of her co-workers told her to apologise.
Taking to Reddit to explain the situation and ask if she was in the wrong, she wrote: “Am I the a***hole for calling my coworker a “nosy b****” after she kept insisting to know my husband’s salary?” She explained that she and her husband had been together since college and over the years had enjoyed quite the career trajectory as a quantity portfolio manager and was now earning a huge sum of money, revealing his salary was at least 10 times hers and she was on quite a bit.
The woman added: “As we’ve grown wealthier, I’ve learned that people become nosier. Friends, acquaintances, relatives, you name it. In the beginning, I would entertain the nosy questions, but since I turned 30, I’ve adopted a “take no s***” attitude. When people ask me how much he makes, I no longer say anything. I’ve learned the hard way that giving an exact number can have bad consequences.”
Recalling the incident, she added: “My co-worker, 25, is new and she already has quite the reputation. Very chatty, catty, gossipy, you get the gist. You can just tell she craves wealth and status. She wears a bunch of flashy designer items and is always asking the ladies around the office which of the men are single.
