Wimbledon star tha suffered horror fall forced out of doubles after complaints

Alize Cornet’s injury has forced her out of the doubles (Image: BBC) Alize Cornet has been forced out of the women’s doubles tournament at Wimbledon after suffering a horror fall on Centre Court during her singles match on Thursday. The Frenchwoman went down while facing Elena Rybakina and had to have her knee heavily taped up – going on to lose in two sets. She later hit out at the tournament’s treatment of lower-ranked players. Cornet’s Wimbledon campaign is officially over after the 33-year-old’s fall proved to be serious. At 5-5 second set of her match against Rybakina – having already lost the first – the world No 74 fell at the baseline as her opponent rushed over to see if she was alright. The Frenchwoman was down on the ground for several minutes as the umpire also came over while physios were called to court. And Cornet could be seen in tears as she limped to her bench and received a medical time out. She already had her thigh strapped when entering the court and half her leg was covered in tape as she chose to continue playing. Cornet went on to lose in a tiebreak and crashed out of the singles but was due to contest the doubles with Panna Udvardy. But she withdrew on Friday, citing the knee injury she picked up from the horror fall. The 33-year-old got to play on Centre Court given that she was facing the reigning champion. And it was a stark contrast compared to Court 10 – where she played her opening match. Explaining her experience of Centre Court, Cornet noted that players were barely allowed to bring any guests or family unless they were scheduled on a big show court. “I am 70 in the world. And I’m treated like a 70 in the world,” the former world No 11 laughed. Cornet explained that the issues differed between Grand Slams, and she had the luxury of being a home player at the French Open. She added: “t’s a different treatment on every slam. When I’m at home, for example, in Roland Garros, I have priorities over the courts, I know everybody, I can ask when I want to play. You know, I’m very comfortable at home. I think the organization does everything for the French player to be successful there.” Alize Cornet fell on Centre Court and has now pulled out of the doubles (Image: Getty) We’ll be bringing you the very latest updates, pictures and video on this breaking news story.
