Wimbledon billionaire richer than Cristiano Ronaldo set for hefty payout

Jessica Pegula is set to increase her jaw-dropping potential net worth by picking up a hefty payout at Wimbledon after reaching the fourth round at SW19. The 29-year-old will face Lesia Tsurenko for a place in the quarter-finals on Sunday after beating Elisabetta Cocciaretto in straight sets earlier this week, a result which ensured that her deepest run at the All England Club would continue. Pegula is technically worth billions as she is poised to inherit the wealth of her father, Terry, who is one of the richest businessmen in the United States after hitting the big time via investments in fracking. He is worth an estimated £6.7billion, according to Forbes , which Pegula will inherit one day to substantially increase the value of her bank account. Her family fortune is several times larger than Cristiano Ronaldo’s net worth of around £500m, per Sporting News , while it also technically makes her wealthier than Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic combined. Pegula will supplement her riches with another considerable payout at Wimbledon this week, with her third-round victory over Cocciaretto confirming that she will receive a healthy chunk of prize money. She is guaranteed at least £207,000 just for making it into round four but could scoop £340,000 if she manages to beat Tsurenko for a place in the last eight. The amount of money on offer will increase again to £600,000 if Pegula reaches the semi-finals, while the runner-up at Wimbledon will be compensated with a £1.18m consolation prize. It remains to be seen if Pegula will be able to claim her maiden Grand Slam triumph over the coming days, although she will be confident of doing so after entering the tournament as the fifth seed. She recently expressed her view that her on-court achievements are often overlooked as a result of her privileged upbringing, which she is not intending to shy away from in spite of the reputation that comes with it. It’s just like, that’s what I feel, and I don’t care, it doesn’t affect me and that’s fine.”I understand and I think I’ve gotten better at maybe trying to bridge the gap of more of, OK, it might not be an underdog story, but it’s kind of a cool story, a fun story, I want to connect with the sports teams. I want to connect with my family in that way. I don’t want to totally shy away from it. “I’m not gonna sit there and flaunt everything, but I think it’s just fun, and I think that’s helped me as well be more comfortable when everyone’s always like: ‘Oh, she’s the richest tennis player in the world or she’s worth the most or blah, blah, blah, or she doesn’t need to do this or that’.” Follow our Express Sport page on Instagram here .
