Wilko launches administration sale as prices slashed on thousands of products

The ‘Wilko Administration Sale’ will include thousands of products – while the future of the chain’s 400 stores and 12,500 jobs now rest on whether it can find a new owner

Wilko have announced a massive administration sale as the future of the chain’s 400 stores and thousands of jobs hang in the balance.

Signs have been spotted in Wilko shops across the UK promoting the ‘Wilko Administration Sale’, adding: ‘1000s of reductions throughout the store.’ The discounter entered administration on Thursday, raising the prospect of yet another big-name retail brand disappearing from the nation’s high streets.

It had already suspended its home delivery service before it entered administration, and a banner on the Wilko website states: “Home delivery and click and collect are currently unavailable. You can still check stock in your local store before popping in.”

Wilko had earlier filed a notice of intention to appoint administrators, providing 10 working days of protection from creditors as they attempted to find a buyer or secure investment. The firm had been in talks with Laura Ashley owner Gordon Brothers, Bensons for Beds owner Alteri and OpCapital, and was also reported to have been in discussions with a rival retailer.
