Wiegman suffers two injury blows as England stars ruled out of double-header

The Lionesses are set to conclude a history-making year with a double-header against Japan and Norway in Spain, but Sarina Wiegman will not be able to call on two regulars

Manchester City forward Lauren Hemp and Arsenal midfielder Jordan Nobbs have withdrawn from the Lionesses squad due to minor injury concerns upon reporting for international duty at St George’s Park.

Both England stars started for their clubs on Sunday for the final episode of Women’s Super League action before the international break, with Hemp running riot through a dogged Reading defence to give City a 3-0 victory. Elsewhere, Nobbs helped Arsenal cruise to a comfortable 4-0 victory over bottom-of-the-table Leicester.

Hemp and Nobbs were included in Sarina Wiegman’s initial 25-player squad for the Lionesses’ upcoming friendly double-header against Japan and Norway in Spain.

But Sky Sports has reported that the pair will not make the trip with the team amid injury concerns, following consultations with their respective clubs.
