The G20 was set up after the financial crisis to help the world’s biggest economies find a better way of co-ordinating responses to global problems.
But the problem hanging over this week’s summit is that the global inflation crisis is caused in large part by the actions of a G20 member, Russia, and its invasion of Ukraine.
As Rishi Sunak and other world leaders arrived for a summit in Bali tomorrow, there is therefore little expectation of substantive agreement, with hopes of even a blandly-worded diplomatic communique – the standard end to such meetings – already low.
