Why is Temu so cheap? A day shopping on the popular — but ruthless — Chinese app

On a new, wildly popular Chinese shopping app, you can get a pair for £6.99 – and that’s far from a one-off. A baseball cap will set you back £1.68 and a claw hammer costs £1.07.

Welcome to Temu, the world’s biggest bargain bin. Since launching a little under four months ago, Temu’s app has been downloaded more than nine million times in the UK alone, according to the data provider Apptopia.
