 Get your aprons and rolling pins at the ready – The Great British Bake Off (GBBO) is back. In just a few hours, 12 new contestants will fire up the ovens in a bid to join the Bake Off wall of fame. Each week they'll be tasked with creating showstopping bakes to a theme – and there's sure to be plenty of disasters as the competitors race against the clock to be named Star Baker. Judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood return to separate the soggy bottoms from the moist sponges, while Noel Fielding is back on hand to present. Newcomer Alison Hammond will be at his side after Matt Lucas left the Channel 4 show. As we prepare to enter the famous Bake Off tent once more, many will already be placing their bets on who will win this year's show – but what exactly does the winner get, and who took the title in 2022? However, aside from the love of baking, it is the exposure that is sure to drive many contestants to sign up to take part. Many former Bake Off stars have gone on to sign book and TV deals, with season three winner John Whaite going on to appear on Strictly Come Dancing in 2021 and even open his own culinary school.
