The dust has settled – for now – on new Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s new cabinet appointments.
Jeremy Hunt was reappointed Chancellor of the Exchequer after former PM Liz Truss handed him the job following the firing of Kwasi Kwatang, while Dominic Raab was appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Secretary.
One appointment that has caused some controversy is Suella Braverman as Home Secretary, who had only resigned from the job six days prior after breaking the ministerial code.
In her resignation letter at the time, she admitted sending an ‘official document from her personal email to a trusted parliamentary colleague’ – which she called ‘a technical infringement of the rules’.
Ms Braverman said she ‘reported her mistake as soon as she realised’, but recognised stepping down was ‘the right thing to do’.
