PARKLAND shooter Nikolas Cruz was sentenced to life in prison on November 1, 2022, two years after he opened fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
Cruz narrowly avoided the death penalty by a jury of 12 people, nine of whom voted in favor. Florida requires a unanimous vote to hand down the death penalty.
Born on September 24, 1998, Cruz is known as the Parkland shooter.
Cruz killed 17 people and injured 17 more during a school shooting with a semiautomatic rifle in 2018.
The event has since been referred to as one of the deadliest mass shootings in American history.
