The drama was sensitive towards the victims, but a leading theme involved the sexist assumptions of the age and a truly repulsive distinction some officers made between victims who were prostitutes and those who were “innocent”. This new series from the writer George Kay returns to those dark 1970s days with a story told from the point of view of his victims and their families, and where Sutcliffe is largely absent.
