What Man Utd rebel Cristiano Ronaldo said to Bruno Fernandes

Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes were involved in a strange dressing room encounter (Image: Sky Sports)Portugal international attacking midfielder Joao Mario has moved to clarify exactly what was said between Man Utd duo Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes during a frosty dressing-room encounter. Video footage of the awkward reunion went viral in light of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s explosive interview with Piers Morgan which has understandably soured his relations at Old Trafford.Eagle-eyed supporters on Twitter have since chanced their arm as body language experts in a bid to analyse the current state of play between the Manchester United double act, who will both be representing Portugal at the World Cup in Qatar.Having signed a bumper long-term contract with the Red Devils, Fernandes is firmly committed to Erik ten Hag’s project while the same cannot be said of Ronaldo as he once again attempts to engineer his exit. The playmaker appeared to initially snub CR7 in the Portugal dressing room as he placed down one of his personal items as a stunned Ronaldo stared at Fernandes before the pair shook hands. The embrace was rather brief given Fernandes went on to hug some of his other team-mates including Joao Felix but in the view of Mario, the United pair were actually sharing a joke about their staggered arrival times.READ MORE: Man Utd to explore £150m Kylian Mbappe transfer’ as three-man striker shortlist emerges Joao Mario cleared up what really happened between Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes (Image: GETTY)Portuguese journalist Pedro Sepulveda translated ex-West Ham attacker Mario’s comments for Sky Sports News, declaring: “Today Joao Mario clarified all of the situation. Ronaldo was the first one to come to national team camp and Bruno Fernandes was the last one.”So Ronaldo then made the joke to Bruno Fernandes about if he came by boat or by plane.”That was the only thing they were talking about. There is no problem between Ronaldo and Fernandes and they are both focusing on the World Cup.”His observations have already been backed up by an unnamed source close to Fernandes, who told The Athletic: “Despite social media scrutiny of a clip that appeared to show a frosty greeting between Fernandes and Ronaldo as they met up for World Cup duty on Monday, sources close to the former insisted to The Athletic that it was a joke about his flight from England arriving late and that the exchange had been taken out of context.”READ MOREChelsea boss Graham Potter in agreement with Thomas Tuchel over Cristiano Ronaldo transferMan Utd to explore £150m Kylian Mbappe transfer’ as three-man striker shortlist emergesJamie Carragher mocks awkward Cristiano Ronaldo handshake with Man Utd ace Bruno FernandesUnited issued a statement on Monday confirming that Ronaldo’s interview will be investigated by the club before they make any further comment. However, the writing now appears to be on the wall for Ronaldo, who has already caused problems for Ten Hag by storming down the tunnel just minutes from time in the 2-0 win over Tottenham.Ronaldo has since forced his way back into reckoning although he has missed the past two matches through illness.Having labelled United a “marketing club” during his interview with Morgan, Ronaldo has since taken to Twitter to promote his NFT collection – a move that is unlikely to prove popular. He tweeted on Tuesday afternoon: “My NFT collection is coming on November 18, exclusively on @Binance. This is your chance to join my Web3 community and own iconic moments from my career. Sign up now with code RONALDO to prepare, and receive a surprise when the collection drops.”Ronaldo has made 16 appearances for United in all competitions this season, managing just three goals (goal every 350 minutes).Super-agent Jorge Mendes is now expected to begin work again on finding a new club for his star client ahead of the January window.Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Napoli and Bayern Munich were among the teams that were offered Ronaldo this summer – all of which declined.
