What happened the very first time Kate Middleton met the Queen

Kate described their first meeting and revealed that it had come on a significant day for the extended Royal Family and reportedly took place without Prince William being there

Prince William and Kate Middleton have been stepping up more than ever as they settle into the roles of Prince and Princess of Wales following the coronation of King Charles.

But public engagements and tours are nothing new to the couple who have been hard-working royals for over twelve years, ever since their wedding in April 2011. Before the Queen’s death the couple were known to be incredibly close to the monarch, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have previously opened up about the first time Kate and the Queen ever met.

Kate told ITV ‘s Tom Bradby about the meeting shortly after her and William announced their engagement in 2010. She revealed that it had come on a significant day for the extended Royal Family and reportedly took place without Prince William being there. While Royal weddings are a familiar spectacle for many these days, the first of the Queen’s grandchildren to get married was Peter Phillips, who married his now-former-wife Autumn Kelly back in 2008. It was during these celebrations that Her Majesty and the Duchess of Cambridge met for the first time. However, according to news reports Kate attended the wedding without Prince William.

“Well I first met her at Peter and Autumn’s wedding,” Kate explained to Tom. “And again, it was in amongst a lot of other guests and she was very friendly and, no, it was fine.” Prince William echoed his now-wife’s sentiments, adding, “She’s very welcoming. She knew it was a big day and everything was going on with Peter and Autumn were there and things and she’d wanted to meet Kate for a while so it was very nice of her to come over and say hello.” He said that there was a “little chat” and that his grandmother and partner “got on really well”.
