What deals can a new Labour government do with EU?

Brexiteers fear being dragged back into the bloc but what options does Sir Keir Starmer have for closer ties with continent

Sir Keir Starmer can expect a warm, if cautious, welcome for his plans for a closer relationship with the EU if he becomes prime minister.

The final UK-EU divorce deal brought a much harder Brexit than many in Brussels and the capitals it serves wished.

The door is ajar to negotiate new agreements to supplement the bare bones trade deal, now that the Windsor Framework for Northern Ireland has improved strained relations.

Labour has ruled out rejoining the EU’s Single Market, which would mean a return of freedom of movement, but wants a deeper relationship.
