‘We’re investing in future hardware’ says Xbox boss on next generation consoles

Xbox has committed to a new generation of consoles but not a mid-generation upgrade, as an Xbox Series X Pro looks unlikely.

With the launch of Starfield imminent, and given their victory in the Activision Blizzard court case, Microsoft is in the best position it has been for years, when it comes to Xbox.

That’s despite the fact that console and Game Pass sales continue to underperform, but in a new interview Xbox boss Phil Spencer has committed to being part of the next generation of consoles, and not just rely on streaming.

‘We’re investing in future hardware. So you’re gonna continue to see hardware coming from Xbox, said Spencer. ‘We think that’s important, and we love the console experience. We’re not running away from that.’

Spencer ensured everything he said was just ambiguous enough not to count as an official announcement, but he seemed to downplay the chances of there ever being a mid-generation upgrade, similar to the Xbox One X or PS4 Pro.
