The satirical website ILiveHere ranked the UK's towns, with people being able to vote for their least favourite. While Aylesbury took the dubious honour, Staines was in 49th place. A scathing review on the site dubbed Staines 'the town that died of shame'. It said: "Staines, the very name conjures up a vision of ****-ridden, rubbish-strewn despair because it is an utter ****hole of a dump and always was. 'Don't know where to begin in describing this pit beyond take the very worst *****hole you can think of and multiply by a million." However, it's not all bad news for the market town. Spelthorne, the district that houses Staines, was named Surrey's happiest, reports SurreyLive, according to a study from The Office for National Statistics (ONS). The town also offers lots of attractions with things to do. Penton Hook Island is the most popular, according to TripAdvisor, with the area making a great place for a leisurely stroll. One person wrote: 'Who needs Richmond when you have Staines. Walks, river, boats, the lock, ice cream. Fab island for fishermen." Staines also has a bustling market which is open three days a week from 8.30am to 5.30pm. Depending on the day and the traders you can get hot food, fresh produce, home décor, fashion as well as lots of other things on offer.
