Meghan Markle’s “emotional” appearance at this year’s Invictus Games with Prince Harry has been keenly felt by the Nigerian delegation, according to one royal writer. The Duchess joined her husband in Germany for the Games on Tuesday night, a few days after the opening ceremony last weekend, but she has already been making a splash as she and Harry look more loved-up than ever. The pair strolled around hand-in-hand, laughing and dancing and happily posing for photographs with fellow spectators and competitors. One particularly touching encounter came when the couple went to watch Nigeria play Ukraine at wheelchair basketball, as Meghan previously revealed she is 43 percent of Nigerian descent. Derrick Cobbinah, the facilitator for the Nigerian team, and their team leader Bobby Ojeh spoke to Isabelle Casey from Hello! magazine about the struggle for those with disabilities in the country and the importance of Invictus for them. It’s not that common, so for the first time, for Invictus to come in and bring an element of hope in terms of people with disabilities coming up and doing more, and being beintegrated into society. “And it helps infrastructure as well, to be more disability friendly. Because now we can have hotels and everything that have got access for people as well.” Meghan was delighted to meet fans from Nigeria (Image: Getty) Mr Ojeh talked about his experiences meeting Meghan, who revealed she was hoping to bring her family to Nigeria for a trip one day. He sung her praises, telling the publication: “Behind every successful man is a woman, and trust me Meghan has been amazing, contributing to the success story of Invictus. The sky is the limit but trust me they are going to the heavens. “She has the sentimental attachment to Nigeria, so it dawned on us as a team to say why don’t we just give Meghan a name. “She’s wonderful, she’s just wonderful. The way she embraced [her Nigerian heritage] meant a lot to us as Nigerians and this is the message we take back to Nigeria.” The couple have been very affectionate at the Games (Image: Getty) The Nigerian team have given Meghan a special nickname in honour of her connection to the country, and it has a suitably regal meaning. According to PEOPLE , her new nickname is “Amira Ngozi Lolo…Amira is the name of a warrior princess from a legend, while Ngozi means ‘blessed’ and Lolo means ‘royal wife’.” Meghan gained her British royal title after marrying Prince Harry in 2018, and even though her and Harry are no longer working royals they are still known as Duke and Duchess.
