Watch: Iran to ‘investigate’ brutal beating and shooting of protester captured on film

Attack reportedly occurred during the ruthless crackdown on protests after the death of Mahsa Amini while in custody of the morality police

A dozen Iranian security forces in riot helmets savagely kick and beat a man with truncheons. As the security forces begin to depart on motorbikes, an officer fires a shotgun at the man lying prostrate and motionless on the ground, apparently into his face.

Video of the attack, which reportedly occurred last month during the brutal crackdown on protesters angered by the death of Mahsa Amini in the custody of morality police, was shared online on Tuesday, sparking widespread outrage over its casual brutality.

The video is so shocking that Iran’s police force – perhaps fearful of it fueling further public anger – announced on Wednesday that it had opened an investigation to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“A special order was immediately issued to investigate the exact time and place of the incident and identify the offenders,” the police announced in a statement published by state news agency IRNA.
