Wales throw debutant Rio Dyer in at the deep end against All Blacks

‘I don’t think the occasion will get to him,’ said Wales head coach Wayne Pivac

New Wales cap Rio Dyer will not be overawed by the challenge of facing the All Blacks on Saturday after being thrown into the deep end for his international debut, according to Wayne Pivac.

In what is the first time the 22-year-old Dragons wing has officially been a member of the Wales squad after injuries to both Josh Adams and Alex Cuthbert, Dyer will start directly opposite world-class finisher Sevu Reece this weekend as they attempt to clinch a first ever victory over New Zealand.

While Dyer would never have come up against a back three of this quality before, with Reece joined by two-time World Rugby Player of the Year Beauden Barrett and wing Caleb Clarke, Pivac is confident the Dragons speedster will take test rugby by storm and hurt the All Blacks.

“I don’t think the occasion will get to him,” said Wales head coach Pivac. “He’s looking forward to testing himself against some of the best players in the world.
