Vet’s urgent warning on dog toys you should never buy for your pet

The expert warned pet owners there’s a toy they should ‘avoid at all costs’ when shopping for dogs and puppies, as he claimed the popular gadget could be a choking risk

A vet has urged dog owners to avoid several toys commonly sold by pet shops, as they could put your pooch at risk. While vets normally encourage owners to treat their pets to all sorts of toys and stimulating games, it turns out some could be doing more harm than good.

As @themelrosevet explained in a series of posts to his dedicated TikTok page, he advises owners to avoid certain toys. To name a few of the most popular examples, Sehaj Grewal, otherwise known as Dr G, opposes tennis balls, giant dog bones, rubber latex balls, and stuffed toys. Sharing his rationale, the expert claimed: “Here are three dog toys you want to avoid at the pet store.

“The first toy is a rubber latex ball. The rubber that covers the latex ball has a hole that can easily get stuck on your dog’s lip or tongue.” He continued: “The second one: stuffed toys. Dogs can tear those apart. They’re filled with a lot of foreign material that can easily get stuck in their gut. Thirdly, avoid small toys. Dogs can easily choke on those. Avoid them at all costs.”

In a follow-up video, the pro shared three further toys he says dog owners should avoid. “Giant dog bones. They are very irritating to the teeth and they can damage the gums,” he explained. “Secondly, tennis balls. They’re very abrasive like sandpaper. They can very well cause damage to their tongue and gums as well. Lastly, any sort of dog toy that has a hole. So any sort of like rubber ball with a single hole that can also get stuck on a dog’s tongue.”
