The US international struggled to make an impact at Elland Road during a nightmarish six months stint which ended in relegation and his woes appear to not be going away
USMNT midfielder Weston McKennie’s Juventus career appears to be in limbo after he was left off the Italian giants’ roster for their upcoming tour of his homeland.
The 24-year-old experienced something of a period to forget at Leeds United, with his six-month loan ending in relegation and it appears that his woes show little sign of subsiding in Turin. The former Schalke 04 prospect failed to truly establish himself with the Serie A club following his permanent move in 2021, making 65 appearances over three campaigns.
Now, it looks as though he could be heading for the Allianz Stadium exit door after his unsuccessful stint in Yorkshire failed to convince Juve boss Max Allegri of his merits moving forward. A move back to the Bundesliga had been mooted earlier this summer, with Borussia Dortmund having emerged as potential suitors, according to ESPN.
A hypothetical move to Signal Iduna Park would not be without controversy, given the 44-time international’s ties with Schalke – with the two clubs from across the Rhur famously bitter rivals. Any clashes between the teams in the form of the infamous Revierderby will not come in the league next year, however, with McKennie’s former employers having succumbed to relegation last term.
