Sales last year rose 6pc to £9.3bn because of pricier vehicles being sold, although the company lost passenger car market share, going from 12.7pc of the market to 11.7pc. The average price for Fiestas of any age is £10,473, which is £3,110 higher than pre-pandemic levels, Auto Trader said. By the middle of 2026, Ford will only sell electric or plug-in hybrid cars across Europe. It intends to be electric-only by 2030. The company lost its crown last year as maker of Britain's best-selling car after almost 50 years at the top of the list, with the Vauxhall Corse taking pole position. Most recently the best seller was the Fiesta, but the roster has also included the UK-built Escort, Cortina and Focus since 1971.
