 A lucky lottery player has just won the third largest jackpot in US history. The winner bought the lucky ticket at a supermarket in Neptune Beach in Florida. They've won a huge $1,580,000,000 jackpot – equivalent to around £1.18 billion. It's the first Mega Millions jackpot winner since April 18. The odds of winning the jackpot are estimated to be one in 300 million, the BBC reports. The identity of the lucky winner hasn't been revealed. Florida law means anyone who wins $250,000 or more is exempt from being named publicly for 90 days after the prize is claimed. However Florida Lottery must reveal the name, city and amount won to any third party who requests the information – although street addresses and phone numbers are kept confidential. The total $1.58 billion is available if the winner opts for an annuity, meaning the cash is paid out over a 30 year period. Otherwise, they can receive a lump sum of $783 million as the cash is subject to federal and some state taxes.
