Lecturers will strike at almost all universities this month in their long-running dispute over pay but have called off a marking boycott.
Their union leaders vowed to mar freshers’ week with picket lines. This year’s freshers have already been hit by the pandemic, did not sit GCSE exams and experienced teachers’ strikes in the run-up to their A-levels.
Academics at 136 universities will strike for five days at the start of the new term. The University and College Union (UCU) said its members would walk out for five days from September 25. Strikes will take place at four Scottish universities on different dates to coincide with action by other unions.
The UCU has withdrawn its marking and assessment boycott that started in April and left
