UK’s most ‘sought-after’ seaside location where average house sells for £534,000

Many Britons moved to the seaside back in the pandemic, with seaside towns offering beaches, coastal walks as well as town centres. According to the latest research from Moverly , the city of Brighton is the nation’s most ‘sought-after’ property hotspot, with an estimated £914.3million worth of property purchased over the last year. Properties in the city had an overall average price of £534,288 over the last year, with the majority of sales being flats, selling for an average of £359,797, according to Rightmove. Terraced properties sold for an average of £642,864, while semi-detached homes fetched £620,036. Overall, sold prices in Brighton over the last year were 12 percent up on the previous year and 21 percent up on the 2020 peak of £442,329. There are lots of properties available in Brighton, from flats to large detached mansions, with more than 1,000 listings currently on Rightmove. The experts at Moverly said: ‘Brighton, known for its liberal culture, has relatively high property prices and with an estimated 2,208 homes sold across the BN1, BN2 and BN3 postcodes over the last year, Brighton has not only seen the highest number of property purchases, but it also ranks top where the total value of homes sold is concerned at £914.3million.’ In a distant second place came Worthing, West Sussex, with over £252.6million worth of property sold over the last year. Lymington in Hampshire took third spot, where an estimated 396 homes have been sold across the SO41 postcode in the last 12 months to the tune of £197.2million. If you’re willing to buy in Scotland, then owning a seaside property doesn’t have to be an expensive endeavour, according to the experts. For a remote lifestyle, properties in Millport, a town on the island of Great Cumbrae, sell for an average of just £86,599. Other areas which could be an option for homebuyers include Irvine, Campbeltown in Argyll and Bute, where purchases average under £100,000.
