 A dictator's daughter has had three properties worth more than £23 million confiscated by fraud investigators. Gulnara Karimova, whose dad Islam Karimov ruled Uzbekistan from 1989 until his death in 2016, used 'dirty money' to purchase two Belgravia flats and a mansion in Surrey. It is alleged these were bought with bribes she received in exchange for access to telecommunications companies in the Central Asian country. The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) confirmed it has taken control of the properties as part of a case dating back from 2017. The SFO has an ongoing civil recovery case to recover multiple properties linked to her and other members of her family. Other assets across Switzerland, France, Russia and the US and a number of other countries are valued at more than £1 billion. The government of Uzbekistan is working to return them. but so far only about £130 million have been seized. The 51-year-old also had her own jewellery line and debuted her coat designs at New York Fashion Week in 2011. For a time Karimova was tipped to succeed her dad, working as a counselor at Uzbekistan's Mission to the United Nations. But she disappeared from public view in 2014, when it was later revealed she was under house arrest regarding accusations of money laundering.
