UK cities to be drenched in WEEK of rain as Met Office gives verdict on August washout

At least four days of rain and thunder are coming to the UK as a warmer, summery spell looks likely to be ‘short lived’ – though some areas could escape the wet weather

Washout weather is ready to lash the UK again after a brief warm spell this week – and the rain could stick around for at least four days.

Brits are currently getting themselves in the mood to enjoy a rare taste of summer this week, as new forecasts show a return to sunny, clear conditions after weeks of downpours and unseasonably cool conditions.

Highs of 27C could be felt in some central and southeastern areas on Thursday, reaching levels not seen since the mini-heatwave back in June.

But this is set to be ‘short lived’, according to the Met Office, as a new weather front carrying rain and possible thunderstorms will sweep in from Friday onwards thanks to an area of low pressure. Showers could stick around for most of next week in some areas, interspersed with a few sunny intervals.
