But the same fate befell him in the fifth round front of a sold-out crowd at The World's Most Famous Arena. Adesanya relished the prospect of settling the score with the previously-undefeated Pereira, telling SunSport earlier this year: "It definitely gets me up. I like new blood, fresh blood. "Even Pereira, fighting him is still new blood because he hasn't seen me in my element which is real, unhinged striking in MMA. "No pillows for hands, straight, straight striking. "Also, we have the element of grappling as well, which he'll be surprised about." Adesanya was his usual elusive self to begin with, throwing out numerous his trademark feints amid leg kick trades. Adesanya managed to draw several big reactions from the big Brazilian, whom he sent backwards with a good stiff right hand. Pereira tried to utilise heavy pressure and throw his left hook multiple times - although Adesanya was wise to it. He did, however, find a home for the hook that stopped the fan favourite five years ago before narrowly landing a flying knee. But Adesanya punctuated the round with nasty right hand and left hook that wobbled Pereira before the horn.
