 The summer of discontent continues – despite the recent news that many public sector workers will be getting a pay rise. While that's great news for the likes of police officers and teachers, other workers continue with strikes in demands for fairer pay and working conditions. As is the case with rail workers. More strike dates across National Rail and London's Underground have already been confirmed. In London, Transport for London (TfL) tube workers will strike between Sunday, July 23 and Friday, July 28 (with no disruption on Monday, July 24). ASLEF train drivers will walk out on Wednesday, July 26 and Friday, July 28. Workers in engineering, maintenance and management roles will also be striking on July 26 and July 28. But will this be the last of it – or are more strikes coming in August? Will there be further train strikes in August? At present no further action has been announced for August. While no further strikes are planned, this can, as we have seen over the last year, change very quickly. The train strikes continue after nearly a year of regular action (Picture: Getty) Unions must give at least two weeks' notice before going on strike, so that is the latest they can leave it when it comes to announcing further walkouts. In May, members of the RMT union voted to renew their mandate to continue taking industrial action for the next six months. So, unless a deal is met, it's highly probable that more action will be called in the final half of the year. Why are rail workers striking still? Quite simply, the rail workers have not yet been offered a deal close to what they've been asking for since strikes first started taking place in 2022.
