As Kari Lake’s face flashed up on the big screen, a supporter in attendance at her election night party in Scottsdale observed that the would-be governor of Arizona was increasingly looking and sounding like her mentor, Donald Trump.
That is not a coincidence. Lake, a former television news anchor-turned-Maga (Make America great again) evangelical, has proudly described herself as “Trump in a dress” and is being touted as a possible running mate for the controversial ex-president’s next tilt at the White House.
Lake, 53, stepped down from her job at a local Phoenix news station only in March last year and her remarkable rise to national prominence has been built on the skills she honed in the studio.
