A new brain teaser has left people scratching their heads as they try to work out how many Fs they can see in one sentence – and it’s much more difficult than it looks
Our brains are complex organs, and not many of us know how they really work. They process so much information daily that sometimes they skip over things we see all the time and have come to accept as normal. This is especially true when it comes to reading, as many of us will be able to skim-read sentences at super-fast speeds because our brains already know how to process words that we see on a daily basis.
Working on brain teasers that challenge you to look at sentences more closely can be a great way to train the brain to be more perceptive – so why not have a go at this one? All you need to do is count how many times you see the letter F appear in the sentence written below. But be careful, it’s trickier than it looks.
The sentence you need to read is this: “Finished files are the result of years of scientific study combined with the experience of years.”
How many Fs can you count? It might look super simple, but the brain teaser has actually left many people scratching their heads as their brains completely skip over one of the Fs in the sentence, leading them to come up with the wrong answer. We’re going to talk you through the answer in a moment so take another close look at the sentence and count the letters again just to make sure you’ve got it right.
