Town criers from around the world gather in Wiltshire for national competition

NEWS… BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT

A small town in Wiltshire today played host to a gathering of up to 30 town criers from the UK, Bermuda, Nova Scotia and Australia.

They all competed in the Calne Town Crier Competition to the theme of ‘Cry Me a River’ in honour of the river Marden that flows through Calne.

The event has been hosted by Calne town crier Mark Wylie, who won the inaugural town crier competition in Chard in June.

The first ‘home’ cry started at 10.30am and the second cry was at 2pm.
