Tottenham may have been gifted the perfect opportunity to land Clement Lenglet on a permanent basis. Barcelona are keen to offload the defender this summer and awaiting offers for the Frenchman, but they may not end up receiving a transfer fee for his services. Spurs have conducted a significant reshuffle this summer, with acquisitions in all departments. Manor Solomon and Dejan Kulusevski were both purchased to bolster Tottenham’s attacking ranks, with James Maddison signed to add creativity to Ange Postecoglou’s midfield. Hugo Lloris’ regressing form over the last few seasons also prompted Daniel Levy to bring in a new No 1 in the shape of Guglielmo Vicario. However, Spurs’ defensive rebuild is far from complete and another addition in that area of the squad has yet to be ruled out. Micky van de Ven was signed from Wolfsburg for a fee of £43million, but the Dutchman is unlikely to be the sole defensive acquisition this summer. Barcelona’s Lenglet made an impression on loan at Spurs last summer and is still admired, and his side’s interest in Giovani Lo Celse presents an interesting conundrum. However, the offer was instantly rejected as Spurs are only keen to offload the midfielder on a permanent basis. Barca’s finances mean that they are unable to fork out the £12.8m required to sign Lo Celso, and they could be tempted to return with a swap offer – with Lenglet heading in the opposite direction. It is unclear as to whether both players are valued similarly, but, on the surface, it does appear to be a deal that is likely to please both outfits.
