Tottenham boss Conte’s reaction as he discovered Champions League ban

Antonio Conte learned that he will be suspended for Tottenham’s crunch Champions League clash with Marseille in his Friday press conference. The Italian was red-carded for his furious reaction after Harry Kane had his winning goal against Sporting Lisbon controversially disallowed by VAR. Unlike Premier League rules, managers who are sent from their technical area are handed an automatic one-match ban. Conte was seemingly unaware of this when he faced journalists ahead of Spurs’ Premier League clash with Bournemouth. The 53-year-old must sit in the stands for Spurs’ final Champions League group game against Marseille. The north Londoners ideally need to avoid defeat to progress to the knockout rounds despite leading Group D on eight points. Sporting and Eintracht Frankfurt sit behind on seven points each. Quizzed on his suspension, Conte revealed: ‘Honestly, I didn’t know I was banned for the match with Marseille. If there is this type of rule then I think the referee should show more attention.
