Tory MP opens up over struggle after mum’s death from alcoholism when she was 9

Sara Britcliffe, who was the youngest Conservative MP when she was elected in 2019 at just 24, revealed she was left stranded in an airport at just five years old when her mum was arrested

A Tory MP has opened up about her mum’s death from alcoholism and called for better support for addicts coming out of rehab.

Sara Britcliffe, who was the youngest Conservative MP when she was elected in 2019 at just 24, revealed she was left stranded in an airport at just five years old after her mum, Gabrielle, was arrested for being drunk and disorderly.

In another instance, the fire brigade had to rescue her as a child when her mum locked her in the house when she went out.

Her mum passed away in 2004, when Ms Britcliffe was just nine years old.
