Over the same period, violent crimes rose as a proportion of hate crime offences across the country, from 29% in 2012/13 to 41% in 2021/22. Hate crime related to disability rose more than seven-fold, from 1,676 in 2011/12 to almost 13,000 in 2021/22. Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has committed to a £360m plan to improve community safety by recruiting 13,000 more police officers and community support officers.
